Trump supporters applaud as speaker touts "CR is dead" at Turning Point USA
Supporters of Donald Trump who were gathered at a grassroots conservative convention in Arizona on Thursday cheered the collapse of the bipartisan government funding plan, which the president-elect publicly opposed.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, kicked off his group’s “America Fest,” a four-day conservative gathering that will be capped by an appearance from Trump on Sunday, by touting the opposition to the government funding deal as a victory over an attempted “Democrat boondoggle giveaway.”
“Under old circumstances, that thing just would have passed. But there’s new voices, and we took to social media. Elon Musk took to social media. Many of you took the social media, and the president took the lead,” Kirk said.
Kirk expressed confidence that Congress would adopt a new government funding bill that will raise the debt limit to facilitate spending for “the biggest, baddest and best border bill in the history of our country.”
